[comp.unix.ultrix] Slip on a DECstation 3100

benu@bnlux0.bnl.gov (David Hassel) (03/03/90)

I'd like to run slip between two UNIX machines, one being a
DECstation 3100 running UWS 2.1. I tried to add /etc/ifconfig sl0 ...
to the rc.local file but when I do I get the following message:
ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCGIFFLAGS): no such interface
Is there a way to run slip on a DECstation? Where/what is the pseudo
device for ifconfig? Is there any way to run slip over a LAT tty
similar to a LAT printer?

                                Thanks,

      						Dave

Slip is provided unsupported on Ultrix 3.1.

Before you get your hopes up, it happens to be broken on Ultrix 3.0-3.1 on
a DECstation 3100 due to bugs in the serial line driver. Should work
on other machines.

I believe this is fixed in the proverbial next release.
