Help me if you can *PLEASE* I am trying to install INGRES 6.2 on a microVAX II running ULTRIX 3.1 Although the only instructions I have are from a manual for a SUN machine, the procedure seems pretty straight forward. The place that I am falling over is when INGRES tries to install shared memory and semaphores. The error message indicates that it was unable to allocate the 204,800 byte for the lock segment. At the suggestion of INGRES (Australia) I have made the following changes to the system configuration file: smmax 2048 smseg 16 smsmat 32 I also changed the following line in /usr/include/sys/sem.h #define SEMMNS 120 After rebuilding the kernal, moving it to / and rebooting, and re-running iibuild, the same error occured. Due to various complications along the way, I have been trying to get this going for over 3 weeks now, and we are desperate to get it up. If anyone has been through this and can give me the solution I would be ecstatic, but any suggestions to help me on to the right track would be most welcome. Also if anyone could suggest how I can test what shared memory/semaphore resources are available to INGRES, I may be able to narrow down the problem. A timely response will resurrect me from a quivering heap of dejected despondency to my normal state of (in?)competence. Thank you in advance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You can't teach a new dog ultrix! ------------------------------------------------------------------------
