I have a question about talk program of DECStation 3100 running Ultrix 3.1. When I tried to used talk to talk to somebody on the same system I got an error message -- talk : ntalk/udp: service is not registered. I checked the /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf and they seem O.K. to me. Does anyone know how to solve this problem ? Thanks in advance !! The E-mail address is yhsieh@cadence.com The /etc/inetd.con contains these entries : talk dgram udp wait /etc/talkd talkd ntalk dgram udp wait /usr/etc/ntalkd ntalkd The /etc/services contains these entries : talk 517/udp ntalk 518/udp ==================================================================== I Tommy Hsieh I Cadence Design System, Inc. I bet you're using Yellow Pages - if so, your YP master holds the
legit copy of /etc/services & your local copy isn't consulted.
Allegedly, in 4.0, this can be overridden.
