[comp.unix.ultrix] problems using mips fortran compiler on decstations 3100

anthony@cit-vax.Caltech.Edu (Lawrence Anthony) (03/26/90)

recently, when using the mips fortran compiler (version 1.31) on the
decstation 3100 running ultrix 3.1/uws 2.1, i obtained the following
error message:

Script started on Mon Mar 19 14:08:00 1990
csh> f77 -o mossim mossim.f
ugen: internal : line 3 : symbol.p, line 270
                illegal inits
csh>
script done on Mon Mar 19 14:09:56 1990

i have no difficulty in generating the corresponding object file
(mossim.o or mossim.u). the error seems to occur during the link
stage. using different levels of optimization and other combinations
of compile and/or link options does not help any. this file compiles
and runs okay on a vaxstation II running vms 4.7. the line numbers
and filename (symbol.p) in the error message are meaningless to me,
as none of my source files have that name. presumably, they refer to
the components of the code generator itself.

any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
