[comp.unix.ultrix] 104MB SCSI drive address

jg@zorch.crl.dec.com (Jim Gettys) (05/25/90)

The DS5000 uses the SCSI-II standard connector.... This is the new standard
SCSI 50 pin connector that more and more products should start using
(much nicer
than the old...). So it is not surprising if Sun and Digital now use the
identical SCSI connectors on current products.

For a bunch of (bad) hysterical reasons, the DS3100/2100 uses a 68 pin
connector
from the same series of connectors; this goes back to prehistory in the
VAXstation
3100 program, and we did not have time to change/fix it for PMAX. I won't bore
you with a discussion of the reasons for this strangeness. Some of us
call this
connector/cable "the bonehead connector".
