            DIGITAL NAMES DR. ALAN G. NEMETH TO POSITION 
              OF TECHNICAL LEADER, OPEN SOFTWARE GROUP

MAYNARD, Mass. -- June 21, 1990 -- Digital Equipment Corporation 
today annouced the appointment of Dr. Alan G. Nemeth to the position 
of Technical Leader, Open Software Group.  In this new position, 
Nemeth will report to Kurt Friedrich, Group Manager of Digital's 
Open Software Group.  
     In this role, Dr. Nemeth will be  responsible for Digital's 
strategy for competing in the Open Software market, specifically 
including Digital's UNIX product strategy.
