I am having trouble building a working version of gcc 1.37.1 on a VAX running Ultrix 3.1. I built gcc as if I were on a BSD VAX. I changed only the CPP_PREDEFINES to define "ultrix" and "bsd4_2" like Ultrix's cpp. The build was successful through the stage2 test and everything looked great. The problem is that sometimes gcc will generate code that dies with an "illegal instruction" message (Most notably in some X11R4 clients and the g++ library test). I haven't begun looking into it yet, as I'm hoping for a quick response from someone else's trials. Are there other changes that need to be made for building on a VAX running Ultrix? Thanks in advance for all responses. -John P. Eisenmenger Duke University Dept. of Electrical Engineering jpe@cameron.egr.duke.edu
