[comp.unix.ultrix] Ultrix LAT "client"

rex@nbc1.ge.com (Rex Espiritu) (07/13/90)

I've set up a DECstation 3100 on our ethernet to be one of the
services available on our LAT (terminal servers).

What I'd like to do now is set up my DECstation (and any other
Ultrix/Unix host service, for that matter) to be able to access other
LAT services on our network.

Is this possible? Any info (via e-mail preferred) would be greatly
appreciated!

This feature is good for services that are accessible only via LAT.

I read the guide as suggested and I called DEC as well. They
referred me to Atlanta (1-800-332-8000) and I was put on queue. Someone
named Elizabeth called me back from their Tech. Software Support and after
describing my situation to her, looking through manuals, and further
inquiry (of others at DEC) on her part, she came to the conclusion that NO
it's NOT POSSIBLE to do what I'm attempting to do!
Has anyone been able to do this at their site? This strikes me as
something basic that should be possible. A DEC/X-windows VT1000 X-terminal
can access LAT services directly via ethernet; why shouldn't a full-blown
DECstation 3100 Ultrix workstation be able to do the same?
