For almost obvious reasons, I wish to use my underused VAX cluster console be the console of five DECstation 2100 servers. This has been prototyped with Suns, other VAXen, etc, but seems **difficult** on a 2100 (:-)). When one sets the eeprom to use **anything but the standard display** as console, the machine never makes it through self-check! Instead it "bombs out" of the check to the monitor prompt, then loops uncontrollably running a very suspicious set of commands... | KN01 V7.01 | | 7..6..5..yzyypxx | 08-00-2b-15-c5-3e | 0x01000000 | >> | >> | >> KN01 V7.01 | ?47a path: KN01 | ?43e ill cmd: KN01 | >> | >> 08-00-2b-15-c5-3e | ?47a path: 08-00-2b-15-c5-3e | ?43e ill cmd: 08-00-2b-15-c5-3e | >> | >> 0x01000000 | ?47a path: 0x01000000 | ?43e ill cmd: 0x01000000 | >> | >> >> | ?47a path: >> | ?43e ill cmd: >> | >> To me, this looks like it's taking its messages out of the eeprom and trying to execute them as monitor commands... Has anyone else had experience with this, or with non-display consoles on DECstations? Indeed, how do the non-desktoptop DECthingies boot if they can't use ascii consoles? This has beenm reported to DEC (b7546) but as yet I haven't heard anything. --dave -- David Collier-Brown, | davecb@Nexus.YorkU.CA, ...!yunexus!davecb or 72 Abitibi Ave., | {toronto area...}lethe!dave Willowdale, Ontario, | "And the next 8 man-months came up like CANADA. 416-223-8968 | thunder across the bay" --david kipling
