[comp.unix.ultrix] 200

For almost obvious reasons, I wish to use my underused VAX cluster
console be the console of five DECstation 2100 servers. This has been
prototyped with Suns, other VAXen, etc, but seems **difficult** on a
2100 (:-)).

When one sets the eeprom to use **anything but the standard display** as
console, the machine never makes it through self-check! Instead it "bombs
out" of the check to the monitor prompt, then loops uncontrollably running a
very suspicious set of commands...

To me, this looks like it's taking its messages out of the eeprom
and trying to execute them as monitor commands... Has anyone else had
experience with this, or with non-display consoles on DECstations?
Indeed, how do the non-desktoptop DECthingies boot if they can't use
ascii consoles?

This has beenm reported to DEC (b7546) but as yet I haven't heard anything.
