[comp.unix.ultrix] LK401 keyboard and X

jv@mh.nl (Johan Vromans) (08/01/90)

I have a LK401 keyboard (from a VT1000) connected to my VAXstation,
and I like it very much more than the conventional LK201 keyboard.
Is there a way to configure the X-server to allow the use of the ALT
key (instead of the Compose key) so the Compose key can be used where
it is designed for (to compose characters)?

You don't say whether you are running VMS or Ultrix.

Under Ultrix, the device driver and server do not know about
the additional modifier keys; the system is treating the LK401
as a LK201. And beware, before Ultrix 4.0, an LK401 may not work
at all on DECstations (depending upon the revision of the LK401; early
production LK401's interact badly with the older drivers).
The new driver and server for multi-screen
DECstation 5000's, which will be in the next functional release, does
have support for the LK401. Whether this driver and server will ever
be retrofitted onto VAXstations I can't say, as I'm not in the engineering
group responsible.

I can't speak for VMS.
