I am having a problem printing on our Imagen printer from a
DECsystem 5400 (RISC) running Ultrix 4.0. I had the same problem under
3.1D. The symptoms:
o Plain text data reaches the printer, but no pages are
ejected. If I send a second job to this printer, but
from our VAX, the second job "pushes" the pages of the
original job out.
It's as if the Imagen were not receiving any form-feed
commands from the 5400. I have "ff" set to "\00" in
/etc/printcap; this is the same way we configure it
on our VAX.
o DVI files, converted to Imagen format by the "mctex"
software from University of Maryland, print as dozens
of blank (or nearly-blank) pages. A few characters
(correctly placed, in fact) are scattered on some pages.
This Imagen is connected to a LAT terminal server (DECserver 200).
It has been hooked up like this for 3 years, receiving print jobs from our
VAX (Ultrix 2.0). The only thing that has changed is that DS5400, instead
of the VAX, is now sending the data.
So, I believe that the problem is software-related. Has something
subtle changed in /usr/lib/lpd, LAT, or printcap, between VAX Ultrix 2.0 and
RISC Ultrix 4.0?

directly from Imagen.

Note the value of "ff" for the form-feed character; this is the same as
it was set up on our VAX.
Does anybody have any clue as to what's going on here? Does anybody
have an Imagen hooked up to a DS3100 or DS5400, working successfully? If
so, could you send me your printcap?
