[comp.unix.ultrix] RPC libraries for Ultrix

doug@ridley.coyote.trw.com (Doug Rudoff) (07/20/90)

Will Ultrix 4.0 have RPC libraries? Obviously, with NFS running there
are some available, but when will DEC include them so users can write
applications with RPC?

The Sun RPC stuff is in "libc" itself.
The Apollo NCS stuff can be found in "-lnck".

The supported RPC mechanism under ULTRIX 4.0 is the one OSF picked as
part of their Distributed System Services: NCS.

4.0 includes DECrpc (NCS).

I just discovered that there are RPC libraries, DEC just decided not
to document it anywhere. (The RPC calls are part of libc.a) I guess
I'll have to use my Sun manuals for documention.

I took a brief look at a 4.0 system a few days ago, and I recall seeing
2 RPC subsets, one of them for RPC Application Developement.
