We have a Vax cluster sharing a hard disk with two cpus, currently we are running VMS on it, but we are considering to switch to Ultrix. Is it any similar function in Ultrix to support this kind of hardware configration ? Besides, I also like to know whether there is any ADA compiler for Ultrix. Thanks for your information. ps. my internet addr. is alin@thesis1.hsch.utexas.edu Alex Lin :wq

I'm not 100% clear on your configuration, but the only kind of disk sharing that Ultrix supports is via NFS. Normally this is over ethernet, giving the something similar to the VMS LAVC. It can also be done thru the "networking" capabilities of the CI hardware, but still using NFS protcols, rather than shared access to the drives. Some of the newer MicroVAX systems are supporting "clustering" via dual-access DSSI drives. I don't see any signs of Ultrix support for this or shared drives using CI/HSC hardware, although DEC could probably implement something like this as part of the SMP confusion in Ultrix 4.x if they wanted to. The current version ultrix probably "run" on such a system, however each disk would have to belong to one of the CPU's and the other access via NFS over ethernet. > Besides, I also like to know whether there is any ADA compiler for Ultrix. I'm sure there are one or more, ask your DEC sales person for a 3-rd party Ultrix software catalog.
