---------- First the problem - during kernel build phase of "doconfig" procedure, I get the error: Fatal error in: /usr/lib/cmplrs/cc/uopt Segmentation fault - core dumped *** Error code 1 Stop. This occurs during an out-of-the-box Advanced Installation of Ultrix 4.0 on a DS3100. The only optional kernel parameter that I set is "PACKETFILTER", and removing this option doesn't seem to help. I had a long talk with the people at Customer Support in Atlanta, but they weren't able to come up with anything. Any suggestions from this group? Could it be a very bizzare hardware problem that went undetected while running 3.1 on the same system? I have successfully installed the same 4.0 tapes on both another 3100 and on a 5000/200PX with no difficulty. Second, the question: are there significant differences between the Ultrix 4.0 "pre-release" tapes and the final released versions? My pre-release tapeset is made up of: AQ-MM11C-BE 000MUB8610 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) SUPPORTED SUBSETS VOLUME 1 AQ-PBJRB-BE 000MUB8544 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) SUPPORTED SUBSETS VOLUME 2 AQ-PDBTA-XE 000MUB8987 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) PRERELEASE MANDATORY UPGRADE AQ-MM12B-BE 000MUB8494 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) UNSUPPORTED SUBSETS while the newer "release" tapes are labaled: AQ-MM11C-BE 000MUI5350 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) SUPPORTED SUBSETS VOLUME 1 AQ-PBJRB-BE 000MUB8660 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) SUPPORTED SUBSETS VOLUME 2 AQ-PCV6A-BE 000MUB9508 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) MANDATORY UPGRADE AQ-MM12B-BE 000MUB8486 ULTRIX/UWS V4.0 (RISC) UNSUPPORTED SUBSETS My guess is that the tapesets are identical, with the exception of the upgrade tapes, but since I don't know the meaning of the second "magic number" (perhaps a serial number of some sort?), I'm not certain. If the upgrade tapes are, in fact, the only differences, is it possible (and/or advisable) to install the second upgrade tape on to a system that was previously installed from the "pre- release" tapes? If it is advisable/necessary to install the new release, I'd like to do so without having to rebuild the entire system (if possible), since I have a number of customizations in place that would be disturbed.
