The subject says it almost completely: can I connect a modem to a DECserver200MC port and configure the port so, that the modem can be used for both dialin and dialout (shared) access from an Ultrix system? Thanks for any info. I'll summarize if relevant. No guarantees, but if I were to try and get this to work this is what I'd do. pick some LAT device in /dev, say tty10 put the line lcp -h /dev/tty10:caseSensitiveNameofDS200:PORTnumberon200 in rc.local and then act as if /dev/tty10 were a normal shared tty in /etc/ttys Shouldn't take very long to try this out. The real question is, is there something in LAT that conflicts with or does not support the shared tty support in the tty driver (TIOC[SC]INUSE). Perhaps Matt T. could elucidate. -chris

At least one difference to local lines is that the status of modem signals isn't carried over the LAT connection. I faintly remember that some tty shared use functionality was based on sensing the CD signal. (But no doubt Matt has supplied the definitive answer even before this article gets propagated over the pond. :) Timo -- ____/ ___ ___/ / Kivihaantie 8 C 25 / / / SF-00310 HELSINKI, Finland ____ / / / Phone: +358 0 573 161, +358 49 424 012
