[comp.unix.ultrix] Compressed SLIP on Ultrix 4.0

tim@appenzell.cs.wisc.edu (Tim Theisen) (08/22/90)

Since there has been considerable interest in running SLIP on DecStations,
I thought that I would share my experience with running Van Jacobson's
Compressed SLIP on my Decstation. I have made the necessary changes to
run Compressed SLIP under Ultrix 4.0. These include modifications to
match the way that ultrix handle mbufs. I also fixed a problem that
occasionally caused panics on my DecStation.

I run the SLIP code daily and I am quite pleased with it. I am making
my changes available to anyone who would like to use them. Remember,
cslip is still a beta test version for hard-core network kernel hackers.
Also, I have NOT added any symmetric multiprocessing code. This should
be installed on single processor machines only.

You pick up the whole distribution with my modifications. Or, if you
already have the original cslip distribution, you can pick up the diffs
and use patch to update your sources.

cslip for ultrix 4.0 is available via anonymous ftp from shorty.cs.wisc.edu.

	pub/cslip.ultrix4.diffs.Z (just my modifications)
	pub/cslipbeta.tar.Z (distribution with changes)
