We are currently looking for a backup system for a 5820 with 2.4 GB and 16 DECstation 2100s. The backup system should either be supplied by Digital or at least supported by them. The questions are: - Is the DAT system supplied by Digital supported by Ultrix version 4.0 and will it attach to a DECstation-2100 ? - What about "approved" 8mm Exabyte systems, ie one that Digital will stand over and support in Ultrix 4.0 ? -- Michael Nowlan | eMail: michael@cs.tcd.ie Department of Computer Science,| Trinity College, | voice: +353-1-772941 Dublin 2, Ireland | FAX: +353-1-772204

There are rumors that DEC's TLZ04 (4mm) is actually going to be available in November (they had been saying maybe January). It sure is ok for 4.0; my guess is there shouldn't be probs. with the DS2100, but not having access to one, you would be wise to check with someone not holding a hat over his face. >- What about "approved" 8mm Exabyte systems, ie one that > Digital will stand over and support in Ultrix 4.0 ? DEC has been shipping Mountain 8mm units to the more voluble of their angry customers (those who expected their 4mm units from DEC last June), so DEC better support the Mountain 8mm unit. From what I gather, there are quite a few 8mm units that Field Service may support -- not sure about classification (ie, class A, B, or C).
