I'm still trying to set up a Sony Read/Write SCSI Optical Drive on a DS3100. It's set up as unit 3 along with an RZ55 and a TK50 on the SCSI bus. The hardware is visible to the console monitor and I did a >>scsi fm 3 which worked. The drive passed the DEC extended mode self test, but failed the >>scsi cd 3 (Read/write test for SCSI hard drive) with "illegal data out length specified" and "Drive write error***". The drive can be set up and it returns inquiry respones and a ready status. The problem is when using rzdisk. I issued #/bin/rzdisk -f /dev/rrz3c and the system just went away hung (^C did nothing). It came back only after turning the power to the drive off. Any other rzdisk options have the same effect. I am running Ultrix 4.0. I had similar problems with earlier versions of Ultrix, and thought that 4.0 would solve them.
