[comp.unix.ultrix] VMS & Ultrix : managing user accounts

elsen@esat.kuleuven.ac.be (09/24/90)

We are looking for an integrated VMS Ultrix user account management system
  (hello DEC ?).

Having been a VMS shop for quite a few years we are now also
managing a DECstation 'cluster' using a DECsystem 5400 as a server.

We designed what could be called a 'network VMS - Ultrix
Account Management Architecture' in order to be able to manage both
  worlds in a friendly manner.

That means for instance : 1) each VMS UIC defines by convention a unique
Ultrix uid (this is needed in order
to provide a consistent UCX Proxy database).

                            2) If someone starts using Ultrix he/she will
be able to access his/her VMS files
in an easy manner using UCX NFS.

                            3) Several others...

Currently we are designing ADDUSER.COM and DELETE_USER.COM
under VMS for creating and removing accounts together
both under VMS and Ultrix at the same time (hence my previous posting).

BUT ,we don't want to reinvent the wheel. If anyone else has already
dealt with this or knows of a PD package I'd like to hear about it.
