On our VMS workstations we have superseded the session manager pause function with a locally written utility. This utility accepts more that just the users password - it allows the system managers password to also "unpause" the session. I would like to bring this up on our Ultrix workstation but I have a samll problem. Given a login name, and a password, how do I encrypt it so that I can test it against the users /etc/passwd entry? I'm pretty sure that I need to user crypt(3) but I'm not sure how to format the key and salt strings. Does anyone know how to do this? Please respond to this by private mail or even better by phone. --- Tom Tom Allebrandi | Vice-char and mail guru, VMSnet WG, DECUS VAX SIG Inland Steel Research Labs | Internet: allebrandi@inland.com East Chicago, IN | UUCP: ...!uunet!inland!allebrandi 219 399 6306 | DECUServe: allebrandi BIX: ta2
