[comp.unix.ultrix] How about a color dxpaint-like program?

fnddr@acad3.fai.alaska.edu (Rice Don D) (10/12/90)

I'd like to find a basic drawing package like dxpaint that will do color.
There are various programs that might be what I'm looking for in comp.sources.x
but the descriptions in the index are rather terse. Does anyone have something
like this running on Ultrix 4.0?

The dxpaint program seems to have some interesting quirks. I selected a
nonstandard page size of 5.5"x3.5" at 300 dpi, and doodled around. When
printed, the picture came out the right size, but the text was _MUCH_ too
small...24 pt Helvetica comes out at about 8pt, and 12pt Times looks like
3 or 4pt. Looks like the initial 75dpi resolution is never changed for text.
I don't see this feature in the UWS release notes, so perhaps an SPR is in
order...
"The SPR form must be filled out completely and MUST BE TYPEWRITTEN..."
Hmmm...now where am I going to find a typewriter? The typing pool went to
word processors years ago...I haven't used one for years. Maybe we should
call Field Service as our hardware is inadequate for filling out vital
forms? :-) I thought IBM was the typewriter company!
Or maybe I'll just grab that electronic version that came through this group
a few days back.
Thanks,

You might like to play with MapSketch, available on gatekeeper.dec.com
via FTP for Ultrix. It can do things that neither conventional drawing or paint programs
can do (see last year's SigGraph proceedings for the paper by Gangnet et. al.).
