[comp.unix.ultrix] Info needed: SCSI & Internal disks; modem for 5400

jamesr@cortex.med.jhu.edu (Jim Rosenberg) (10/25/90)

Hope this is the right group (i.e. heat over low flame only :-)) ...

ALSO ... an APOLOGY if this POSTING HAS A DUPLICATE. We have been having
some difficulties with posting articles via nntp, and I have been trying to
fix them while trying to get this posting out to the net.

Anyway, I am looking for information on third - party internal and SCSI
drives for the DECSystem 5400: vendors, prices, # Mb, transfer rates,
access times, performance and price comparisons to DEC drives, opinions of
and experience with the vendor and the equipment ...

We currently have two DEC RF71 400 Mb internal drives and two Trimarchi
SCSI drives (one 300 Mb and one 600 Mb). Ideally, we want to add another
internal drive to get the best performance, but the $/Mb is rather daunting.
If we cannot find a price/performance combination we feel happy with, another
SCSI drive is an alternative; we have been real pleased with Trimarchi
(the company and the equipment) but I would like to see how other vendors
compare in the light of the net.

We also want to upgrade our modem to a 9600 BAUD dial - back modem. So,
I am looking for information on these critters as well: vendors, prices,
opinions and experiences ...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Responses via email would be best:
