I am having problems with tftp on Ultrix 4.0 running on a DECSystem 5400. We have some NCD X terminals that use tftp to download their server images, configuration files and font files. When running Ultrix 4.0, I got the X terminal booted and configured. After a while, it was failing to download some font files. We haven't noticed this behaviour with Ultrix 3.1d. Before anyone asks, I have configured /etc/inetd.conf to use tftp in "restricted" mode with the correct path. There is a comment in the 4.0 release notes that goes like this... B.3.3 Server Logs Out During Daemon Startup The tftpd server may log out of the root session when you start the daemon. You may want to avoid using the tftpd server. As a result of the problems I was having with the X terminal and fonts, I've changed the X terminals' configuration so it uses NFS to get its fonts and configuration files. But we still need a reliable tftp for booting them, and for our routers. "You may want to avoid using the tftpd server." is not an option for us. I was going to try the compiling and installing the 4.3BSD tftpd. So, has anybody got some bright ideas about : - exactly why this is failing - what I can do about it Cheers, Brian.
