We have a DS5000/200 with 16Mb of memory and 2 (and a bit) Gb of disk. Ethercards, big mono monitor, mouse, the usual works. Ultrix 4.0. Open up 4 DECterms, one onto the local machine, three others rlog'ged into other hosts. Do a bit of heavy I/O (viz: On another host, DUMP something onto some disk that is NFS-mounted from the 5000/200.) We have 0.9Mb left of our 16Mb memory according to 'top'. Where did it all go to ? Answers please, on a postcard... 8) - alec -- JANET aem@uk.ac.aber INET: aem@cs.aber.ac.uk or aem@aber.ac.uk UUCP: ...!mcsun!ukc!aber-cs!aem ARPA: aem%uk.ac.aber.cs@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk,aem%uk.ac.aber@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk BITNET: <play around with aem%aber@ukacrl, ok?> SNAIL: Alec Muffett, Computer Unit, Llandinam Building, UCW Campus, Aberystwyth, UK, SY23 3DB

Unless you need a feature of dxterm, xterm is smaller. Look for it on the U*XUNMIT400 subset. } - alec } } SNAIL: Alec Muffett, Computer Unit, Llandinam Building, } UCW Campus, Aberystwyth, UK, SY23 3DB -- Alan Rollow alan@nabeth.enet.dec.com
