Hello Folks, We are having a problem with our dumpdates file when performing a dump to a disk on another system. What we are doing is dumping a partition on the DECStation 5400 to another partition on a VAXStation 3100. Both are running Ultrix 3.1. The problem is that our dumpdates file will not allow us to write to it. We are performing the dump as root and yet we still aren't allowed into it. We have been physically altering the file after the fact, however we just had a disk go bad on us in the middle of a daily and some people lost some things. Needless to say they were pissed. We feel that if we can figure out the dumpdates problem then our script for doing daily's will be more robust. Another problem, maybe not appropriate for this newsgroup but oh well, is how to do a proper verification of a dump done to tape. We have been restoring the highest-valued inode and comparing it to the original. If these problems have been worked out in Ultrix 4.0 then maybe it's time we acquired it and changeover. Eat, Drink and Play Frizbee!! Thanks Evan Schmidt Graduate Research Assistant West Virginia University schmidt@cs.wvu.wvnet.edu
