[comp.unix.ultrix] 'finger' bug ??

cpsrk@marlin.jcu.edu.au (Stuart R Kemp) (12/17/90)

This does not appear to have made it out the first time - apologies
if it did.

Found a bug in 'finger' on a DECstation 5000, running Ultrix 4.0.

Doing a 'finger 1' displays the names of users and accounts containing
the character '1', but also displays information for any entries in
/etc/passwd that have 2 consecutive spaces in the info field (field 5),
or if there is a trailing space before the colon terminating field 5.

Am I missing something here? Anyone from DEC care to comment?

I'm currently running 3.1 on a MicroVAX3600 and have found a bug in finger.
If you run finger without any paramters I get
Bus error (core dumped)

Oh well..upgrading to 4.1 this weekend (and no overtime pay:-( ) so that
should get rid of the problem....
