I recently connected a Tektronix Xterminal to our DECStation 5000. I can run various clients no problem. However, this is after I manually kick off a telnet session and log into the DECStation. I am trying to set things up so that the Xterm boots up in the same way the conole does (i.e. Xprompter, etc.). I added a line to the ttys file for this Xterm. This line is identical to the line for the console except the ":0" at the beginning of the console line was changed to "xtest:0" for the Xterm. With this change, booting up the Xterminal results in the same login screen as seen on the console (i.e. digital logo, etc.) Responding to the login and password fields results in the login screen going away leaving the root window. After about 1 minute the login message returns. Further exploring revealed I cannot get dxsession to run on the Xterminal. It aborts with a message about "attempt to access a private resource". What gives ?? Can dxsession be run on anything but the console ?? -- Dr. Victor L. Rice Litwin Process Automation
