I am trying to run a quantum chemistry program on a DEC 3100. I really would like to finish this job as soon as possible (the boss has asked for a report several times now). But when I ran it in background (with &) or in forground, it says: pid 27897 (egradoh) was killed on kernal access, at pc 0x4177f4 BUS ERROR The last line appeared when running in foregoround. I wonder if anyone can help me with: (1) what is kernel access? (2) what is pc? (3) what is 0x4177f4? (same number two times) (4) what is BUS ERROR? (5) how can I handle this situation? Our UNIX friendly gurus are concerned with bringing the RS/6000 systems to line. But I thought I gave it a short asking the net. (I know UNIX is different from VM/CMS and VMS -:) For those quantum chemistry friendly gurus, I am talking about the TURBOMOLE package from Prof. R. Ahlrichs' group. I am having this problem for a DZP basis set, while succeeded in DZ and STO basis sets. The program package enjoys a low level of attention in my group.
