I'm working on a VAXStation 2000 running Ultrix 4.0 and trying to get a non-DEC laser printer hooked up to the printer port. Here's what I have found from the hardware manual and messing around with the setup: printer port is a fixed 4800 baud with KERMIT, I discovered the port is /dev/tty03 and that I can talk to the printer's interpreted PostScript mode in what appears to be 8-bit no-stop-bit communcation I ran LPRSETUP and the command updated /etc/printcap However, when I try to ship files in with LPR, the printer's status panel flashes between PROCESSING and IDLE, then stops and nothing prints for PostScript; in HP laser emulation, I get a few 1's and 2's scattered over a single page that does print. LPQ shows the queue empty when either of these completes. What are the exact parameters of the 2000's printer port? Especially: Baud (4800 only, it appears) Parity (none?) Stop bits (1?) Flow control (XON/XOFF? DTR?) And, any suggestions on why I'm not getting even partly-readable output? For the curious, the printer is a NEC LC-890 and I'm using a 9-pin straight-through cable from 2000 to a 9-to-25-pin adapter to the printer's DB-25 serial port. Mail or posting back on this would be appreciated. Thanks much! -- ====== Jeff L.
