We have received 2 TLZ04 DAT drives to bolt onto our DS5000/200. There is a problem with this (even though we wanted them). We are only running Ultrix 4.0 (rev 179) and DEC won't give us 4.1 because it's tied up in red tape somewhere. We're working on that, but in the meantime:- 1) We can read/write to the TLZ04's, using 'tar', for instance. Is anyone out there CERTAIN that tapes written under 4.0 could be read by the drives under 4.1 (it seems likely, but you know how it is...). The only thing which doesn't work properly is some bits of the 'mt' command, which presumably cannot enquire the device properly under 4.0, and the lack of the DDS tape partitioning facility. 2) Does anyone know decent 'fudge factors' to plug onto the DUMP command in order to make it give sensible timing values ? I saw these on the net a while back, but we weren't sure what we were getting, back then. thaADVANCEnks .alec -- JANET aem@uk.ac.aber INET: aem@cs.aber.ac.uk or aem@aber.ac.uk UUCP: *!mcsun!ukc!aber-cs!aem BITNET: <play around with aem%aber@ukacrl> ARPA: aem%uk.ac.aber.cs@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk,aem%uk.ac.aber@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk SNAIL: Alec Muffett, Computer Unit, Llandinam UCW, Aberystwyth, UK, SY23 3DB
