Why isn't my mailer smart enough to figure this out? I'm trying to mail to a uucp host on another machine: Return-Path: MAILER-DAEMON Date: Wed, 9 Jan 91 13:56:10 -0500 From: MAILER-DAEMON (Mail Delivery Subsystem) Subject: Returned mail: unknown mailer error 101 To: <tjb> ----- Transcript of session follows ----- <<< RCPT TO:bandw!craig@uunet.uu.net <<< RCPT TO:tjb@unhd.unh.edu <<< DATA bad system name: bandw uux failed. code 101 554 bandw!craig@uunet.uu.net... unknown mailer error 101 ----- Unsent message follows ----- Received: by mozz.unh.edu (5.57/Ultrix3.0-C) id AA03722; Wed, 9 Jan 91 13:56:10 -0500 To: bandw!craig@uunet.uu.net (Craig Goss) Cc: tjb@unhd.unh.edu Subject: Re: Memory (16mb vs. 24 Mb) In-Reply-To: Your message of Wed, 09 Jan 91 08:46:59 -0500. <9101091346.AA00224@ bandw > blah blah blah The format of the address works on other systems. I've tried it with Multinet under VMS and other unix operating systems and have no problems. I know that if I mail to craig%bandw.uucp@uunet.uu.net it works like it should but the other form of the address does not. I assume that if it really bothered me I could go into the sendmail rewrite rules and modify them but I was wondering if this address format should work by default. On a slightly different note, has anyone gotton an ultrix hosts to act as a mail exchanger for an entire domain? Do I need another version of sendmail? What happens is that it receives the message initially, then tries to forward it to itself (i.e. it doesn't realize that it is acting as unh.edu so it looks up unh.edu, and ends up trying to send the message to itself). Any experience in this area would be most appreciated. Thanks for any information. tjb -- ____________________________________________________________________________ | INTERNET: tjb@mozz.unh.edu USPS: Thomas Baker | | USENET: uunet!unhd!tjb Distributed Computing | | NeXT: tjb%IceCube.uucp@unhd.unh.edu Kingsbury Hall, UNH | | Voice: (603) 862-4490 Durham, NH 03824 | |__________________________________________________________________________|
