I used to be able to look at the contents of a directory in many
different ways:
$ cat -v .
$ strings .
$ od .
None of these work under RISC Ultrix 4.0. They work fine under 2.0 on our
VAX. Why were these operations disabled?? I want to look at my directories.

I am following up to my own article. My mistake -- I was
trying to cat an NFS mounted directory, and that's why my commands
did not work.
