[comp.unix.ultrix] 4.x vs 3.x -- What are the new features

kocks@jessica.stanford.edu (Peter Kocks) (03/29/91)

We have many dec 3100's running a mix of ultrix 3.0 and 3.1. It is
time to upgrade to 4.1 or 4.2 and I would like to hear if I should
expect any problems.

How much /usr space does ultrix 4.1 require? I am not interested in
the SQL server. We install everyting, but uucp and the source control
system.

What other new "features" does 4.x have? I have heard rumors about a
new security system. Is this going to create problems for us? We
have a server/client system and yp and nfs. Can we *not* install the
new security features?

Any major changes in how sendmail is implemented? We have a specially
configured sendmail.cf for our system. It includes host name aliasing
and user aliasing. This all still works right?

It seems that the release of 4.1 in an upgrade tape form will coincide
with the release of 4.2. Any important reasons to wait for 4.2.

All responses are appreciated.

THANKS...
