[comp.unix.ultrix] Ultrix 4.1 and OSF/Motif 1.0

jv@mh.nl (Johan Vromans) (04/16/91)

Hi,

I'm running OSF/Motif 1.0 (DECwindows version) on Ultrix/RISC 4.0. Now
I wish to upgrade to Ultrix 4.1. Are any problems to be expected with
the OSF/Motif 1.0 development, especially since 4.1 seems to have new
X libraries (based on X11R4)?

The 4.1 X libraries are still based on R3.

Wrong. The UWS4.1 Xlib is based on X11R4. The UWS4.1 Xt is based on
X11R3, but this is irrelevent, since Motif comes with its own Xt.
Either Motif 1.0 or Motif 1.1 should work fine with UWS4.1, as long as
you use the Motif version of Xt.

We have not encountered any problems with running Ultrix/RISC 4.1 with either the OSF/Motif 1.0 or the DECMotif 1.0. X11r4 is downward compatible with X11r3 (as far as we could tell!)
