[comp.unix.ultrix] Screen grabbing IN COLOR in X11 to a postscript file

mssacks@evax.arl.utexas.edu (Michael S Sacks) (04/16/91)

Does anyone have a screen grabber that will work in X11 that will
output to a COLOR postscript file. I am using a DEC 5000 running
ultrix 4.0. Currently we have a HP Paintjet XL for color printing,
and can convert a color postscript file to the Paintjet language using
a IBM pc program (called Freedom-of-Press).

If by this you're asking about a screen capture product you might call:

		autoGraph International, Inc.
		181 Metro Dr. Suite 510
		San Jose, CA 95110
		408.436.7227
408.436.7225 FAX	Roberta Marchand, Sales Director

They have a product they call "EasyCopy/Motif" that has the following item
on the data sheet:

Printer Support

EasyCopy/Motif supports all printer types available on the market today,
taking unique advantage of the features offeed by each printer to maximize
the quality of the resulting image. Drivers for matrix, ink jet, laser,
PostScript, thermal transfer, variable dot-size and dye sublimation printers
in both color and b/w are available with EasyCopy/Motif.

In my dealings with them they've been very responsive. In any case, I know
that it works on a DS5000/200 CX or PX type system (running either Ultrix 4.1
or Ultrix T4.2) running to a Seiko CH-5504. They stipulate support for HP in
their data sheet (no specifics) so I don't imagine you'll have too much
trouble.

I hope that this information helps. No warranty of the autoGraph products
is intended or implied (I don't even get any money for this ;-) ...sigh).

				Thanx,
				  AJ

On the other hand, there is a superb program on export.lcs.mit.edu. It
takes output from the xwd command and produces a color postscript file
with rle encoding. Look for xwd2ps or contact:

The output is absolutely beautiful!

There's also a program called XtoPS. I snagged it off the net some
time ago. I believe it was from comp.sources.x.

It does color or greyscale and works real well.
