[comp.unix.ultrix] Killing hung DECwindows session

ajt@resmel.bhp.com.au (Andrew Telford) (04/29/91)

Suppose I loose control of a DECwindows session on a DECstation.

Assuming that I have logged in as su from another terminal - Does anyone
know a gentle to stop the DECwindows session and get back to the
Xprompter? What signals should I send to what processes with 'kill'?

Just kill the process named by ps (-aux) as X (:0) or the like with a
-9 and that will return you to the Xprompter (under 4.0 that is). It
won't be gentle and you will probably have to go and clean up any of
your processes that were running in the background of any terminals,
but it does the job.
