Well not totally novice. What I would like to be able to do is route mail from my nice shiny new VAX 6530, running VMS 5.4 to a few DECStation 5000/200 machines running Ultrix 4.1, actually I really want the mail to end up on the Sun at my desk (the console to a Sun 4/490 running SunOS4.1), But I can handle that part easily enough. I do not know a lot about VMS system stuff like mail and the sort. Any solution at all would be nice short term. Of course a long term solution with some $$$ spent is not out of the question. -- | () () () | Frank P. The easiest solution would be to install DECnet on one of the ULTRIX machines. Then you could just send mail from the VMS box to UNODE::user (where UNODE is the DECnet node name of your ULTRIX box). You might have to change the definition of the Y macro in sendmail.cf if your (unqualified) ULTRIX hostname isn't the same as its DECnet node name, but other than that, your ULTRIX box can handle the rest. There are also some various third-party packages that allow VMS boxes to speak SMTP, but I can't personally vouch for any of them. -Shawn Mamros mamros@irc.cbm.dec.com Disclaimer: I wouldn't even know what the "official" opinions are if there were any...
