I've already discussed the known bug that causes problems for Ultrix 4.1 systems when promiscuous-mode packet filter applications are used. Apparently, a patch is available from the Customer Support Center (no, I don't know how to reach them!) The patch is a new version of if_ln.o This implies to me that systems with QBUS and UNIBUS interfaces (which do not use if_ln.o, if I'm not mistaken) should not have this particular bug. I do NOT know if this patch fixes the apparent problems that some people have reported wherein neighboring VMS machines start crashing when they run tcpdump. It might help, and it probably won't hurt. We're trying to figure out what causes this problem, and if someone can provide more info, I would appreciate that. -Jeff
