I have a question regarding syslog daemon program and the file that its writing to : /usr/spool/mqueue/syslog Couple of weeks ago, the syslog message seems to disappear, not the /usr/spool/mqueue/syslog file contain nothing but: Jun 12 14:51:42 --- MARK --- Wed Jun 12 14:51:42 1991 appear in my syslog file. /etc/syslog.conf looks like: 9*/usr/spool/mqueue/syslog root and from man page syslog(3), the openlog() call expect the /dev/log file to exist which is not on my system, does this matter? I have a DecStation 3100, running Ultrix 4.1 Is there a file or some lock somwhere that I should look for??
