I'm a novice with respect to sendmail, and I'm having problems finding a workable configuration under Ultrix 4.1 (Sendmail 5.57, ie the version which comes with this system). The biggest problem is that outgoing mail contains no domain names. Even when a Reply-to: field is set explicitly (using mh), it gets truncated to user@hostname where hostname is unqualified. Our "hostname" command returns the unqualified hostname. Also I'm confused about the meaning of the various relay hosts. The machine I'm trying to set up is on a network that already contains a "smart" mail host, and I'd like to rely on that for anything exotic. However, I'd like to be able to maintain local direct delivery for any host within my own domain. Is there anything special I have to do to set this up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know that these *should* be RTFM questions, but there doesn't seem to be an appropriate FM -- at least not at any level that isn't written as reference for a mail guru.
