[comp.sys.encore] Troubles with UMAX 4.2 and UUCP

boneill@hawk.ulowell.edu (SoftXc Coordinator) (01/05/89)

We've been having trouble at work lately getting UUCP (and our news feed) to
work properly. Some odd problems arose when Encore release UMAX 4.2 Release
3.2.0. It was designed to give us a working NFS, and instead killed our UUCP
communications. Some rdp system calls were rewritten, and any
communications would run too slow for uucico, which gave a lovely core dump.
Along came 3.2.1, the bug fix, and it seemed like everything worked fine,
until our Telebit Trailblazer+ wouldn't work at high speed, but it would
work fine at slower speeds (<=2400). A host would dial in, login fine, and
then end with a SIGNAL 1 on our end and BADREAD 1 on their end.

Now, UUCP never really did like the Telebit, and doesn't like to dial
with it, but pre-3.2 it worked well enough. As far as I can tell, the problem
still lies within the kernal's rdp calls, since a quick boot with 3.1.2 gave
us back our UUCP with the Telebit. Unfortunately, Encore only just recently
acquired a Telebit, and have yet to begin testing.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, solved it, or whatever???

Also, we can only receive at 19.2K since Encore's uucico won't dial with it.
Is there any known way to get a debug script from uucico on a dialin??

Any help is greatly appreciated. Reply to this account, or post.
