Is there any way to limit the number of pages of memory a process can have at once? (so that a user job can not gobble up all of real memory with one process.) "This is the standard lisp problem..."

See setrlimit(2) and the shell command "limit". I am not sure where
the default, system wide values for these come from...I thought it was
settable by sysparam but closer investigation shows that not to be the
case.
