I have finally gotten to reading the documents for the 4.2 to 4.3 OS upgrade, at least the release notes and installation notes. From the instructions it would appear the headerpartition code has been altered such that repartitioning of all disks is required. If I should have need to fall back to 4.2R3_3.2, will I need to [un]repartition the disks and reload from tape (assuming I have upgraded all my disks)? Is it totally impossible to run a 4.2 partitioned disk (with 4.2 file systems (with no hashed directories)) from the 4.3 system? All this seems to make this upgrade a weekend chore, and if things go badly, a major pain to undo. Can anyone confirm or deny this? We also have lots of old 1K aligned binaries. These were probably built back when we still had DPCs in our machine. The notes don't mention this although there was some rumor that 1k images would cease to be supported at some future date. Has that date arrived? Do 1k binaries cause any problems under 4.3? Again, rumor was that 1k images could have detrimental performance effects on a 4.2 system. Thanks. -- Tim Perala tperala@ub.d.umn.edu Systems Programmer/Doryphore Information Services University of Minnesota, Duluth (218) 726-6122
