Encore Mach Version 1.0 Encore Mach version 1.0 is now shipping from Encore. All existing customers with support will automatically receive an update tape in the near future. Those without support should contact their local sales person for information on obtaining Mach. Mach version 1.0 is based on the version 2.5 Mach kernel from CMU and the 4.3BSD-tahoe utilities. Encore has extensively parallelized the file system, network, terminal handling and other portions of the kernel for increased performance on the Multimax. The standard I/O (stdio) functions within libc have also been made thread-safe for use in multi-threaded programs. Encore Windows (X11R4 plus Motif) is also available for Mach. There is no charge for this software, however, customers must explicitly request this software as it is not part of the standard distribution. NFS based on SUN NFS version 3.2 is also available as a layered product. Both client and server sides are supported in the kernel. NFS has also been parallelized for increased performance. ---- Joseph Boykin Manager, Mach OS Development Encore Computer Corp Treasurer, IEEE Computer Society Internet: boykin@encore.com Phone: 508-460-0500 x2720

The zone garbage collection code was actually done for OSF/1. CMU took the code back, but to my knowledge they used the code in the 3.0 kernel, not 2.5. In either case, the answer to your question is "no", this code is not currently in Encore's Mach release. ---- Joseph Boykin Manager, Mach OS Development Encore Computer Corp Treasurer, IEEE Computer Society Internet: boykin@encore.com Phone: 508-460-0500 x2720
