We should start a club. I did the exact same thing on the /dev/rheader0 partition. It took me two days to get the machine up fully. I figured when I typed format it would at least give me some warning with an option to abort if major damage could be done. I have since built a shell around the format command to prevent any unwitting successor (or my own forgettful self) from repeating the mistake. The delay of my reply is due to my absence from work last week. It only took me half a day to recover (I didn't get home until about midnight that day). I remember at the time saying to myself and others "at least it wasn't disk 0!". I have put in an SPR to have some sort of warning message added to format. It is SPR #91000158. I have no idea if or when they will act on it. Fortunately when I did this, the first thing on the disk was the swap
partition so it just crashed the machine before it got to damage any real
data. That was a close one.
