[net.news.group] new group "net.eulogy"

colonel@sunybcs.UUCP (George Sicherman) (12/14/83)

"Net.deaths" might be more appropriate, because

1)	Many people still cannot distinguish between a eulogy and an elegy;

2)	not all death notices are eulogies. (Some run more like "I'm glad
	you're dead, you fiend!")

mark@cbosgd.UUCP (12/15/83)

How about something similar to net.news.config, but for people
instead of machines. In particular, I've sometimes seen birth
announcements as well as death announcements, and both deserve
a place. Likewise, it might be useful for the announcement of
people who are leaving the net or moving to another company.
Of course, we would not expect to see announcements of new users.

I propose all of these go in one newsgroup called, say, net.people

Mark suggests a place for birth and death announcements. I have no
comments on the death part and whether or not net.eulogy is justified,
but I think future birth announcements are likely to find their way
into net.kids. That certainly seems appropriate, particularly since
discussion in net.kids usually involves people discussing their own.
If a particular contributor is suddenly speaking from a different
perspective, he/she might want to tell the net. And I'm sure
no-one on net.kids will object to such announcements.
