[net.micro] 8080 emulation mode on the NEC V20

john@moncol.UUCP (John Ruschmeyer) (09/16/85)

I am still awaiting delivery of my V20, but I have been following the
discussions and was wondering.....

Does anyone have any more information on the 8080 emulation mode of the
V20?

Specifically, would it be possible to use it to run CP/M programs (or even
CP/M itself) without the use of a "Baby Blue" card? (Those programs which
only use 8080 instructions, anyway.)

If so, what would be involved to make it work?

Thanks in advance.

A firm by the name of Intersecting Concepts, the author of Media
Master, is currently bundling a CP/M emulator with their latest MM
version. I am told that they are hard at work on a V20 version which
rather than an emulator will allow direct execution of 8 bit code.
This should become available in a matter of weeks. Look in the back of
Infoworld if you are interested - the price is right.

It will be interesting to see how fast 8 bit code is executed on a V20
at 4.77Mhz.
