[net.micro] Xenix Levels

DZOEY@UMD2.UMD.EDU (Joe) (09/24/85)

Hello! I'm considering upgrading my micro (TRS 16B) from
TRS-Xenix 1.3.5 to TRS-Xenix 3.0 (translation: Xenix 2.3a - Xenix 3.0)

My question is this: Is it worth it? I know that my current version
(Xenix 2.3a) is a V7-sysIII derivative. From what I've heard of Xenix 3.0
it is a derivative of SYS V. Will a lot of things be different? I really
can't tell from the literature I've browsed. It seems that a lot of the
commands are somewhat different, and the terminal handler is very different,
but I'm not sure if that's necessarily bad.

So, has anyone out there had any experience with a change-over? Was it
painful? I don't think I have to re-compile any programs I've already
written (or so the literature claims), but how much did you have to
change your new programs?

                              Joe
