One, possibly two, posts of Research Associate are available
in the Laboratory for conducting research with a strong experimental flavour in
the above area, with emphasis on Realtime systems. If the buzzwords like Byzantine

We are embarking on a project to build a multi-Transputer system
to support replicated execution of concurrent programs. The system is intended for
mission and life critical applications. Since such applications are usually time
critical, our task is to design a responsive system capable of functioning
undisturbed in the presence of failures. We are looking for Computer Scientists
with research experience and interests in distributed computing and operating systems.
One post, funded by the SERC is avilable immediately and is for three years; a second
ESPRIT funded post is likely to become available soon. Standard UK University salary
scales apply: from 9865 to 15720 Pounds Sterling, with starting point determined
by qualifications, experience etc.
The Laboratory is known internationally as a centre of excellence for
research in distributed and fault tolerant computing. Interested persons are
requested to apply in writng, naming two referees, to Prof. S.K. Shrivastava
at the above address by 19 August 1988. For informal enquires contact him
