Research in Highly Reliable Distributed Systems Computing Laboratory University of Newcastle upon Tyne Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU England One, possibly two, posts of Research Associate are available in the Laboratory for conducting research with a strong experimental flavour in the above area, with emphasis on Realtime systems. If the buzzwords like Byzantine Agreement, Atomic Broadcasts, Clock Synchronization, Active Replication, Replicated Invocations, Time Critical Computations excite you then read on... We are embarking on a project to build a multi-Transputer system to support replicated execution of concurrent programs. The system is intended for mission and life critical applications. Since such applications are usually time critical, our task is to design a responsive system capable of functioning undisturbed in the presence of failures. We are looking for Computer Scientists with research experience and interests in distributed computing and operating systems. One post, funded by the SERC is avilable immediately and is for three years; a second ESPRIT funded post is likely to become available soon. Standard UK University salary scales apply: from 9865 to 15720 Pounds Sterling, with starting point determined by qualifications, experience etc. The Laboratory is known internationally as a centre of excellence for research in distributed and fault tolerant computing.
