[comp.sys.transputer] multiple open files

suter@latcs1.oz (David Suter) (08/08/88)

I wish to use the (IBMPC) development system to run an occam
program that reads and writes several (DOS) files that are open
simultaneously. As far as I can make out from the server documentation,
it is possible to only have one file active for input or output at one time
(other "modes" of i/o for other files can be stacked and restarted using
resume). Thus it seems that the only way my application program (running
on the transputer) can communicate with several host files is to
continually switch i/o context by stacking and unstacking - furthermore
the documentation does not seem to indicate whether the current file pointer
is stacked or whether one needs to issue a seek command to restore file pointers
of those i/o operations resumed. Such an approach seems very cumbersome
(particularly if one wants to resume i/o on a file that is not at the
top of the stack but is further down).; is there really a better way buried in
the documentation - or do I need an alien file server to do this more elegantly?
